Chakvetadze hardly feels her left fingers

Russian tennis player Anna ChakvetadzeAccording to Russia’s Fed Cup captain Shamil Tarpischev, Anna Chakvetadze hasn’t yet recovered from the robbery ordeal: “Anna has problems with her left hand–she almost cannot feel her fingers, because during the attack her hands were tied very tightly with some ropes,” told Tarpischev to the newspaper Sovetskiy Sport.

He went on to explain that Chakvetadze had already started practicing, but she had not fully recovered yet, for which she is currently undergoing acupuncture treatments with a Chinese expert. Tarpischev also noted that the whole ordeal had left Anna quite traumatized. She doesn’t want to stay home. Who would want to?

Bad luck follows the Russian players. Anna’s car was stolen a year ago after they parked it with her father and went to do some shopping. Marat Safin’s car was also stolen, but later was returned. According to Tarpischev, an unanimous caller told him where the car was parked. So they were able to recover it.

It is good that Anna is scheduled to play an exhibition match with fellow Russian Maria Sharapova in Singapore this Sunday. Hopefully the new tennis season will help her to get over the horrible experience and concentrate on tennis… AND maybe to pack her stuff and leave Russia for good!
