  • Russian tennis superstar, seeded number five Marat Safin has crashed out in the second round losing to compatriot Igor Andreev.
  • Serena Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova won their quarterfinal matches and will face each other in the semifinals. Williams beat eighth-seeded Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 7-6 (7), and the top-seeded Kuznetsova defeated Vera Dushevina 6-2, 6-2.
  • Scott Andy Murray was beaten in the second round by Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic. Now he has more time to clarify his comments about match fixing and reply Nikolay Davydenko’s comment that “If Murray says that he knows, that means that he gambles himself.”
  • Five seeded players in the women’s draw - Maria Sharapova, Anna Chakvetadze, Marion Bartoli, Amelie Mauresmo and Patty Schnyder - were all upset in the earlier rounds.
